Fall Goat Hunt

When you think of a true backcountry wilderness hunt, unscripted and untamed, this is it! Fly to a high, remote coastal lake and backpack for one of the Bolen Lewis legendary Mountain Goats.

The Trip

This time of year the big billies are off on their own and sticking to a very structured and predictable lifestyle of eating and resting. The terrain and behavioral patterns in the fall make this a premiere opportunity for a bow or rifle hunter to harvest one of our big old Roman nosed billies.

We use a float plane to access one of our many high mountain lakes. From these lakes we backpack into even more remote areas. Our hunts are 10 day long including fly in and out so approx. 8-9 days backpacking. We use the most technologically advanced, lightweight and comfortable hunting gear available. We keep our gear light and fast in order to cover a lot of country and see a maximum number of goats (see our gear list). Upon harvest we will bone out all the meat and prepare your cape for the long haul back to camp.

The better your physical conditioning, the more you will enjoy your hunt and the more successful you will be. We ask all clients to be in the best physical shape they can be in. We know not all of our clients can be 20 year old ultra runners, we are lucky enough to have a wide variety or terrain for all skill levels from moderate to the most advanced backcountry hunters. We will fit the hunt to your age and skill level. Whatever your skill level, this will be a very mentally and physically challenging hunt. Maybe one of the truest wilderness challenges of your life. Want even more…we have areas we have not even hunted! Got what it takes? Give us a call.

About Our Goats

Simply stated, there is no better place on Mother Earth to hunt mountain goats than the northern Coast Mountains of British Columbia. This region is home to the highest population density of goats in North America. Furthermore, short winters, few predators, and controlled hunting pressure have augmented the quality of this world-renowned gene pool.

Bolen Lewis lies in the heart of this region. Our 3000 square mile exclusive hunting territory is literally the best of the best. Take a look at the Boone and Crockett record book; you will find that our territory has produced more Top 50 mountain goats than any other outfitting area in the world. Coastal goats develop mass at a very early age, this is the secret to our record book potential. We have harvested 3 ½ year old goats that have scored over 52” B&C….no kidding! New world records are hiding out there somewhere! Since the inception of our outfit, we’ve boasted a 95% success rate for rifle hunters, and a 90% shooting opportunity for bow hunters (75% harvest).

We get asked a lot about the quality of the goat meat. We will remove all meat back to our camp where we will clean and butcher it. It is excellent table fair when prepared properly. You are welcome to take the meat home with you, what stays will feed your guide and outfitters families all year long and any extra is donated local families and the GOABC meat donation program.

Our outfit specializes in goat hunting. We live in goat country and spend an incredible amount of time scouting for mature billies and learning their habits. We know how to judge your animal and we know how to get you close. So, whether you’re a bow hunter looking for a successful hunt or you’re searching for that new world record, our goat hunts are the best money can buy.

Black Bears

From the end of Aug. thru the end of Sept. there is a great opportunity to see some very large coastal black bears on your goat hunt. Make no mistake we are there for your goat, but once you harvest your billy and you want to try for a big coastal bruin, we are all over it.

World Records

Boone and Crockett

Incredibly over 40% of our rifle shot goats have qualified for the all time Boone and Crockett record book. Every year we harvest 2-3 billies in the 52-53” range. With some of the growth we have seen on our young goats in the last 3 years we truly believe the record is out there. We are coming into a great time for big billies. 2018 was one of our best years for big goats!

Pope and Young

In August 2005 our own Allen Bolen arrowed the new Pope and Young world record mountain goat (currently #2). Our clients have several other top 10 entries as well as a good handful of top 20 entries. With the huge growth rings we have seen recently in our young goats coupled with the new Pope and Young world record panel scoring policy, we really feel like the number #1 is ready to be beat!

Long Hunter

In December of 2007 Jim Shockey was able to harvest the new muzzle loader world record (currently #2). Our hunters also hold the #4 and #6 muzzle loader spots. Again this record is ripe to take a run at!
